Information for Business Owners
Without regular cleaning, yeast, mold, and bacteria can build up in your draft lines. This can affect the carbonation and taste of the beer you serve. Plus, biofilm buildup can affect equipment performance, ultimately leading to costly repairs and wasted product.
Fortunately, a regular cleaning schedule can keep your draft lines clear and free of biofilms, helping you save money and deliver the best possible product to your customers.
Our mission is to create a place that allows craft beer enthusiasts to find clean beer near them. We want to raise awareness about the importance of keeping a clean draft system, helping to drive traffic to Clean Beer Initiative partners. Participation in Clean Beer Initiative means you’ll get a thorough line cleaning every two weeks – and you’ll be promoted through our website, social media, and onsite signage along with serving beer the way the brewers intended.
Through our partnership with Northwest Draft Technicians, Clean Beer Initiative can offer draft cleaning and maintenance services – although we certify businesses that use other qualified cleaning services. This is our passion project, born out of a love of good beer.
Clean Beer Initiative Standards
To be eligible for certification, your establishment must meet the standards established by Clean Beer Initiative. We follow the best practices outlined in the Brewers Association’s Draught Beer Quality Manual for cleaning and sanitizing draft line systems. Our standards include:
- Frequency: Participating businesses must have a full system clean every two weeks.
- Materials: The draft line system should be cleaned with a diluted caustic chemical solution and a recirculation pump.
- Recordkeeping: Partners must have an up-to-date cleaning log displayed in or near their beer cooler.
- Experience: Draft system cleaning must be completed by a qualified service provider.
In addition to cleaning draft lines, the service provider must disassemble and sanitize faucets and keg couplers, wipe down all tower surfaces, and clean foam on beer (FOB) detectors.
Certification reflects your commitment to your customers’ health and safety, as well as your dedication to delivering the perfect draft, every time.
