What Is Clean Beer?
At Clean Beer Initiative, we understand how important it is to provide customers with a great experience at your establishment – and that includes great-tasting beer. The Clean Beer Initiative is a voluntary certification program for breweries, restaurants, and other retail food establishments that serve draft beer. There’s something different about drinking draft beer. When the bartender pulls the tap handle, carbon dioxide rushes into the keg, pushing crisp, cold beer to its destination – the bottom of your pint glass. To preserve the taste and quality of this beer, keeping those draft lines clean is essential.
If draft lines aren’t cleaned and maintained, contaminants like yeast, mold, and bacteria will build up. These can affect the flavor and carbonation of the product, resulting in a pint of beer that’s flat, bitter, or just tastes off.
What Is Clean Beer Initiative?
Clean Beer Initiative rewards bars and restaurants for maintaining regular draft line cleaning We work to ensure your establishment uses a safe cleaning solution to sanitize draft lines every two weeks with a recirculation pump and liquid caustic cleaning chemicals. Establishments meeting specific criteria are invited to join Clean Beer Initiative.
Restaurants, bars, brewpubs, and similar establishments that participate in Clean Beer Initiative receive stickers that they may place in their windows, signifying that clean beer lines are a top priority. These stickers let customers know they have the best-tasting beer. They also feature a QR code that links to a map of the various businesses participating in Clean Beer Initiative, encouraging them to choose your establishment over another in the area and potentially boosting sales.

Certification Standards
Clean Beer Initiative uses the cleaning standards established by the Brewers Association, the leading industry group representing craft brewers throughout the United States. The result is less wasted product, higher yield systems, and happier customers. These standards include:
- Full system cleaning every two weeks
- Faucet disassembly and cleaning
- Chemical cleaning of Foam on the Beer Detector (FOB) system
- Tower surface cleaning
